A simple daily routine for summer 2026

Days after I got the schedule for my summer internship, I imagined the daunting feeling of working from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. That was quite early. Usually I rolled out of bed at 8:00 AM for class and fell asleep at 11:00 PM scrolling on my phone. I realized it could be a good challenge to optimize the times I slept and the food I ate. Doing this would minimize the time I spent thinking about them. I felt this way because it meant more time thinking about my duties at work and other areas of personal growth. This was a typical day between January and May 2026: 07:30 AM: turn off first alarm 08:00 AM: turn off second alarm,, cook eggs, air fry toast, eat breakfast 09:00 AM: Class 1 12:00 PM: Class 2, then 3, then 4, all in one building (a brash, spur-of-the-moment scheduling decision I will never make again in my academic career) 04:30 PM: go to apartment and eat an early dinner 06:00 PM: Class 5 07:30 PM: go to apartment and eat more (still hungry) 11:30 PM: fall asleep doomscrolling Now here is how my day goes: 4:45 AM: turn off first alarm 5:00 AM: turn off second alarm 5:45 AM: go to work 5:00 PM: go to apartment and eat an early dinner 8:30 PM: fall asleep reading a physical book (too early to get hungry again) You may be asking yourself: how did I pull off this miraculous feat? It all began with sleep. I rebooted my system by waking up at 4:00 AM. Just one time. Being up so early made me tired by afternoon. I felt like sleeping at 7:00 PM, so I did, and I woke up at 4:00 AM the next morning, and then I was knocked out at 7:00 PM again. As you can see, this cycle sustained itself. For personal reasons, I pushed it 1 hour forward. My breakfasts are identical: Greek yogurt, chia seeds, nuts. I pour the seeds first, nuts second, honey third. When I snap out of my sleep at 5:00 AM, I anticipate this routine. Like how Steve Jobs put on a black turtleneck each morning, I open the same yogurt cup without objection. It's easy and I really like it! No more mental debate about eggs vs. leftovers, abc vs. xyz, etc.
